Tim Liddy's Slight of Hand and Eye /
Versatile artist Tim Liddy is well recognized for his trompe l’oeil paintings on formed copper, suggesting game board covers. Some works we have offered to the public have ended up being purchased for museum collections. Now we have others we consider highly collectible including circa 1986 (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off). This work is so perfect for the Chicago area collector. Don’t let it go elsewhere. It’s iconic!
Liddy talks about how games reflect life and have been part of diverse societies and cultures throughout time. In other words, games are stand-ins and practice for maneuvering through life. His artworks fit in both conceptual and pop culture art. Those qualities make them particularly appealing and desirable.
The superhero looms large in many of Liddy’s works, including “Angel Food” and “Devil Food.” You must look closely. The drawings through the paint are both detailed and subtle. The layers of imagery build a rich surface, always providing something more to discover and ponder.
Come in the gallery to examine the extraordinary details. The quality of execution, imagination and intellect are here to be appreciated.
The works are on view now. Time to get out of the house and into the gallery. Mask-wearing is required. (How appropriate!)

Now to present :
Emotive works by artist Beverly Zawitkoski!
Zawitkoski paints with a desire to reach emotional depth and touch sublime, inexplicable essences.
Her journey is intuitive, informed by how the layering of paint changes direction and leads the artist into unpredictable worlds. Her abstractions do, in fact, suggest a land, place, figure or world where intangible natures reign.
Zawitkoski’s works have the ability to speak to people on many levels. Such is, perhaps, her wide appeal.
Beverly Zawitkoski is based in Montréal, Québec. She started out in theatre design at Concordia University where her work resulted in a Commonwealth scholarship taking her to London and The Slade for her post-graduate studies. There, her work not only earned her the Leslye Hurry Prize, but she discovered a love for printmaking which became her entrée into painting.
From that experience onward she has been devoted to painting.
We have had the pleasure of representing Beverly's art for close to ten years. Her many admirers continue to enjoy and add to their collections.
In addition to the larger works represented here, we also have small works by Beverly Zawitkoski,
ready to purchase, and perfect for the gift-giving season.

Featuring Mary Burke /
Pictured above: A variety of artworks, by Mary Burke, now on view at ZIA.
This year Mary Burke won first place for mixed media at The Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart, IN. In addition, her painting Flourish has been acquired for a private collection in Venice, Italy.
Mary's experience as an artist allows her to continue to be inventive, exploring geometric and organic forms in nature, while developing that special energy created by the artist's hand through marks and gestures: both controlled and spontaneous, abstract and representational.
Garden Plan is an example of Mary's layering of media: paint on canvas with her drawings on tissue paper, as well as, her photographs of flowers. The elements come together to contrast density with openness. Movement is implied by swirling gestures and drips; and rhythms are accented with placements of rectangles and circles, lights and darks. All result in a painting that continues to engage and provoke thoughtful discovery.
In the Shallows represents another dive into creative possibilities generated through uses of different techniques. Here, Mary uses tools from printmaking to create inventive monotypes. A monotype is a one-of-a-kind, fine-art print drawn/painted directly on a surface (in this case plexiglass) and run through a press to transfer the ink onto paper. Mary goes one step further, cutting out shapes from her monotypes and raising them from the surface, above another monotype ground. She has created a number of these spirited abstractions. They stand on their own and play off each other in a series.
ZIA Gallery is pleased to represent this respected and talented artist: Mary Burke. Allow us to help you find the perfect artwork to add to your collection.
